Foreigners who intend to work, study or conduct an academic or a scientific research in Turkey are obliged to obtain their visas at the Turkish Embassies/Consulates prior to their arrival.

If you’re already a Turkish resident:
Foreigners who have already been granted residence permits in Turkey which is valid for at least six months (for any reason, except education and training) may apply for work permits to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.
If you’re not a Turkish resident:
Foreigners may submit their application forms for work permits through Turkish Embassies/Consulates. Work permits are generally valid for one year. You can renew.
Before you begin this process, you’ll need to get a job in Turkey and get them to apply for a work permit for you from the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Once you have that, perform the following steps:

Los Angeles Consulate: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and Hawaii.
Chicago Consulate: Illinois, Iowa. Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
New York Consulate: Connecticut. Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine- Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, and Puerto Rico.
Houston Consulate: Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississipi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
Washington, D.C. Consulate: District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the entire United States

- Contact the consulate to find out whether you can apply by mail, but, in most cases, you will need to apply in person.
- If all documents submitted are accurate and complete, the issuing process will take around 30 days.
- Once approved, you will be informed by phone or e-mail.
You’ll need to pay a non-refundable work visa AND work permit processing fee. Contact your consulate to double check the latest fee or to find out payment method.
After a period of waiting, the Turkish consulate will give to you your brand new work visa for Turkey. Congratulations!
Apply for a Residence Permit at the Alien’s Branch of the Local Police Department (Emniyet Mudurlugu Yabancilar Subesi) within 30 days of your arrival in Turkey.
