Are you headed to Tanzania for vacation or holiday (or perhaps an amazing safari adventure)? Depending on where you are from, you might need to get a Tourist Visa before you head over there.
(Go to my Tanzania visa page for information on other types of visas for Tanzania.)
I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Tanzania Tourist Visa.
- Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Tanzania: No
- A passport and visa are required for travel to Tanzania. U.S. citizens with valid passports may obtain a visa either before arriving in Tanzania or at any port of entry staffed by immigration officials.
- I personally recommend that you get your visa for Tanzania before you go to avoid having to wait a ridiculous amount of time at Immigration. I was not a happy camper when I had to wait for 1 hour for my visa to get processed after arriving in Dar Es Salaam.
- Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to Tanzania:

If you’re outside of the U.S.: Click here.
The list of required documents might vary depending on where you apply, so be sure to check the website of the Embassy or Consulate that you found in Step 1.
- The official list of fees is here at the Tanzania Department of Immigration, but visa fees might vary depending on where you apply. I recommend you go to the website of the Embassy or Consulate you found in Step 1 in order to verify what is required for you.
- If you are applying in the U.S., the latest visa fees are listed here.
- Submission instructions will vary from consulate to consulate and embassy to embassy, so you will need to check the submission instructions at the website of the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.
Congratulations! The Embassy or Consulate of Tanzania will give to you your brand new Tanzania visa.
