How to Get a Visit Visa for Laos

Laos Visit Visa

Laos Visit Visa

Going to Laos to visit relatives?  You are going to need to get a Visit visa.

Go to my Laos visa page for information on other types of visas for Laos.

This type of visa is good for a stay of 30 days (extendable).

I really don’t recommend getting it. You would be much better off getting the Laos Tourist Visa on arrival instead. The reason I recommend against getting it is that you are going to require letter from a guarantor in Laos (certified by the Laos Ministry of Foreign Affairs). It will then take one business week or so for the embassy or consulate to issue the visa.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Laos Visit Visa.

1
Find your closest consulate

If you’re inside the U.S.:

Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic

If you’re outside of the U.S.: Click here.

2
Gather documentation

The best list of required documents is at the Laos Embassy website here.

3
Visa fee

Contact your embassy or consulate from Step 1 in order to get the latest visa fees.

4
Submit materials

Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.

Your embassy or consulate should have detailed visa application submission instructions. If not, call them up.

5
Receive your visa

Congratulations!  The Embassy or Consulate of Laos will give to you your brand new Laos visa.

6
Vaccination information

Don’t get sick! Check vaccination requirements here.
