As stated here, the Visa for Medical Stay is issued to foreign patients wishing to visit Japan for medical purposes (including full medical check-ups). This visa can also be issued to people who will be accompanying you for your medical treatment on an as-needed basis.
This kind of visa allows for stays of up to a maximum of 6 months. The period of stay is determined based on the clinical condition of the foreign patient and other factors.
Fortunately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has made it really easy for us and has outlined the steps perfectly. Great job guys! I wish there were more consulates and embassies that were this organized.
