Who Can Apply for an Afghanistan Tourist Visa?
- Want to be a pioneer and go to Afghanistan as a tourist? Many Americans have no clue that you can do so with a passport and a pre-arranged visa…and here’s the catch…you DON’T even have to be in the military! Woohoo!
- The Afghanistan tourist visa is valid for 1 month. It’s single entry and begins from the day you enter Afghanistan.
But I Want to Stay in Afghanistan Longer than 1 Month!?
- Tourist Visa Overstay Penalties: Sorry my friend, but you better get all you need done and visit all the sights you want to see in Afghanistan in a 1-month period or face (drumroll please!)……DEPORTATION!
Register with the Authorities Upon Your Arrival to Afghanistan.
- Most consulates will advise you to register with their embassy in Kabul, the local Afghan Police Department and the Afghan Tourist Organization (if the visit is for tourism purposes only) on arrival.
- Make sure you do this step so that if something bad were to happen, the guys in Afghanistan will know how to get in touch with you.
Enough already! How do I Apply for an Afghanistan Tourist Visa?
There are 3 consulates in the United States where you can apply for an Afghanistan visa. I recommend applying to the consulate closest to you in order to get your visa faster (but not required from the information I’ve seen as at the time of this writing).
Choose 1 of the 3 consulates below:
- Find your nearest embassy or consulate here.
- Gather the required documents as stated here at the Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Also, be sure to check the embassy or consulate that you found above as documents (and fees) might vary from place to place.
- Submit your materials to the consulate or embassy. Note that each embassy or consulate will have different submission instructions. Follow the instructions carefully so that your application is not rejected.
- After some time of waiting, you will get your visa.
- Go to my Afghanistan visa page for information on other types of visas for this country.
