Got a business trip to Tokyo or some other place in Japan? Depending on where you are from, you might need to get a Business Visa for Japan.
Fortunately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has provided an awesome infographic here that shows a birds-eye visa of the various steps that you would need to take in order to get this type of short term visa for Japan. Great job guys! I wish there were more consulates and embassies that were this organized.

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Japan Business Visa.
Visa required for U.S. citizens: No. You must have a valid passport and an onward/return ticket for tourist/business “visa free” stays of up to 90 days. Your passports must be valid for the entire time you are staying in Japan. U.S. citizens cannot work on a 90-day “visa free” entry.
Visa required for non-U.S. citizens: If you are not a U.S. citizen, check this page here to see if you need a visa.
- If you’re inside the U.S, you can find your “Jurisdiction” (i.e. based on the State you live in) here.
- If you’re outside of the U.S., find your consulate at this site here.
- Follow the steps at this link here provided by the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this type of visa.

Go to the website of your consulate or embassy that you found in Step 1 in order to get the latest visa fees.
Submit your required materials from Step 2 and the visa fee from Step 3 to the consulate or embassy you found in Step 1.
Congratulations! You now have a Japan visa!
