Uruguay is an awesome place…especially Montevideo. I had some of the best times traveling there as a graduate student. I actually spent a week there learning Spanish and had a blast.
If you are considering going there for tourism or business, you might need to get a visitor visa (also called “visa comun”) depending on what country you are from. Citizens of a lot of countries (including the United States) don’t need a visa when going to Uruguay on a short trip for tourism or business.
(Go to my Uruguay visa page for information on other types of visas for Uruguay.)
I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Uruguay Visitor Visa.
- Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Uruguay: No.
- If you are traveling on a regular passport you do not need a visa for a visit of less than three months.
- Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to Uruguay:
- Go to this page here to see if you need a visa before you go to Uruguay.
- If you’re inside the U.S: Click here, to find the embassy or consulate that services your jurisdiction (based on the State you live in).
- If you’re outside of the U.S.: Click here.
You should definitely check the website of the Consulate or Embassy you found in Step 1 above to confirm what is required for you.
- Visa fees might vary depending on where you apply, so go to the website of the Embassy or Consulate you found in Step 1.
- People applying in the United States can see their latest visa fees here.
- Submission instructions will vary from consulate to consulate and embassy to embassy, so you will need to check the submission instructions at the website of the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.
Congratulations! The Embassy or Consulate of Uruguay will give to you your brand new Uruguay visa.
Don’t get sick! Check vaccination requirements here.
