Sri Lanka Short Visit Visa

Sri Lanka Short Visit Visa

If you are going to Sri Lanka on a short visit for tourist, business, or transit, you will need to get an Electronic Travel Authorization unless you are a citizen of a country on this list.

This visa is for people coming to Sri Lanka for the following:

  • Tourism
  • Sightseeing, holidaying
  • Visiting friends and relatives
  • Medical treatment including Ayurvedic and yoga
  • Participate in sporting events, competitions and activities relating to cultural performance
  • Business
  • Participate in business meetings and negotiations
  • Conferences, workshops and seminars
  • Short term training programs
  • Participate in art, music and dance events
  • Transit

The process is pretty simple. Just go to the website here, follow the steps, pay the fee, and the print out (and bring with you on your trip) a copy of the Electronic Travel Authorization approval. It is that simple.

The ETA process is for people who want to stay for a short time (30 days). If you want to stay longer, you can get an extension at the Department of Immigration and Emigration Head Office in Colombo.

If you already know you want to stay in Sri Lanka and return multiple times, you can apply for a multiple entry visa. You will need to apply for this at your closest embassy or consulate. For example, U.S. citizens can get a 5-year multiple entry visa for Sri Lanka.

Don’t get sick! Check vaccination requirements here.
