Iceland Visitor Visa
Are you headed to Iceland for a short stay of less than 90 days? You might need to get a Visitor Visa for Iceland. Visitor visas may be granted for business trips, tourism, private reasons (family and friends), official visits, short term studies and for political, scientific, cultural, sports or religious events.
You are going to need to apply for this type of visa at the applicable embassy/consulate before travelling to Iceland (or anywhere in the Schengen area since Iceland is a member of the Schengen group of countries).

I’ll break everything down for you below about how to go about getting the Iceland Visitor Visa.
Visa required for U.S. citizens before you go to Iceland: No
- As stated at the U.S. State Department website, Iceland is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This means that U.S. citizens may enter Iceland for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. You also need to show that you have sufficient funds and a return airline ticket.
- US citizens wanting to stay longer or reside in Iceland must apply for a residence permit at the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration.
Visa required for non-U.S. citizens before you go to Iceland:
- If you are on this list, you need to get a visa in order to enter Iceland.
- If you are on this list, you do not need a visa to enter Iceland.
- If you’re inside the U.S., click here.
- If you’re outside of the U.S.: Click here
The list of required documents will depend on your purpose of travel.
For the visa fee, go to the website of the consulate or embassy you found in step 1.
- Submit your required materials from Step 2 and visa fee from Step 3 to the embassy or consulate you found in Step 1.
- Your embassy or consulate will have specific instructions.
Congratulations! The Embassy or Consulate of Iceland will give to you your brand new Iceland visa.
