As my father used to say, anything is possible. Getting a student visa for Afghanistan is possible, albeit a bit tricky because you will need to first get accepted into an Afghanistan institution of learning.
With that said, with some persistence (and perhaps knowledge of Dari, the Afghanistan version of the Persian language), you can find an educational opportunity if your desire is to study in an “exotic” place.
Here are the steps necessary to get an Afghanistan Student Visa at the Los Angeles Consulate:
First, you’ll need to get all your documents in order, just like with any visa. Gather all the required materials at this webpage.
Drop off or mail (USPS Express Mail recommended) the information from the step above to the Consulate.
If everything goes smoothly, the Afghanistan Consulate will tell you your visa is approved. Congratulations!
If you applied in person, go pick it up from the consulate. If you applied by mail, you will receive it in the mail. It’s that easy!
You don’t want to get sick on your trip! Check the vaccination requirements here and see your doctor well in advance.
Here’s a hidden catch you’ll want to watch for. Do not forget to bring with you 2 additional passport photos (2×2 inch) for the foreigner registration card which you will have to get upon your entry in Afghanistan. Just do a Google search to find the closest place to you that would do passport photos and you’ll be all set.
