It’s totally possible to get a visa to visit Afghanistan. There are tourist groups that are ready and willing to take you on a safe, fun trip to this fascinating region (e.g. Afghan Logistics and Tours). It is easier than you might think. Here are the steps to get an Afghanistan Tourist Visa at the Washington D.C. Consulate:
First, you’ll need to get all your documents in order, just like with any visa. Gather all of the required materials from this webpage.
Drop off or mail (USPS Express Mail recommended) all that documentation to the Consulate.
If everything goes smoothly, the Afghanistan Consulate will tell you your visa is approved. Congratulations!
If you applied in person, go pick it up from the consulate. If you applied by mail, you will receive it in the mail. It’s that easy!
You don’t want to get sick on your trip! Check the vaccination requirements here and see your doctor well in advance.
Here’s a hidden catch you’ll want to watch for. Do not forget to bring with you 2 additional passport photos (2×2 inch) for the foreigner registration card which you will have to get upon your entry in Afghanistan. Just do a Google search to find the closest place to you that would do passport photos and you’ll be all set.
